The history of F.lli Vitali is inextricably linked with the world’s most precious fibre: silk. It arrived 2,000 years ago from China and spread to Europe via the famous ‘Silk Road’. Como has always been the western terminus of that route and the centre of silk production and processing in Europe. Thanks to its ability to innovate and to always look to the future, the weaving mill specialised in the production of natural and artificial fibres. Today we are in the fifth generation of the Vitali family in the world of silk.
The past the present and the future
The company established itself in the 1940s as a manufacturer of silk fabrics for parachutes and later specialised mainly in silk fabrics for women’s clothing. Over the years, under the wise leadership of Sandro and Alberto Vitali, high-end fabrics for scarves and ties were also introduced. Thanks to the important improvements in twisting yarns and the revolutionary switch from shuttle looms to rapier looms, delicate silk chiffon fabrics went into production and other natural and artificial fibres were introduced. Today, thanks to the technology and creativity of our style departments, we are able to produce high-quality fabrics for the most important fashion houses. The way forward for the future is to always be up-to-date and attentive to technological innovations while respecting our planet, combining professionalism, quality and creativity.
